Indigenous Public Health Training (IPH)

Explore Canada’s only Indigenous Public Health professional development opportunity at UBC’s Faculty of Medicine.

The Indigenous Public Health Training Institutes equip Indigenous community members and scholars with the necessary skills to address public health issues in Indigenous communities. One-week intensive courses are offered toward the completion of the Graduate Certificate or Certificate (non-credit) in Indigenous Public Health, or courses can be taken individually.



Indigenous Public Health Summer Institute 2024 – Applications are now Closed. Thank you all for your interest

IPH Summer will be held: August 19th -23rd, 2024 in person at UBC Vancouver

The courses for the IPH Summer Institute we will be offering:

  • SPPH 578 (1.5 graduate level credits) 
    • Social Determinants of Indigenous Health | 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM PST
  • SPPH 576 (1.5 graduate level credits) 
    • Introduction to Indigenous Health Research Ethics | 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM PST

Information for the Upcoming IPH programing 2024:

IPH Winter Institute 2025 will run from February 17-21, 2025. The courses to be offered are:

  • Indigenous Health Policy in Canada (SPPH586, 1.5 credits)
  • Collecting, Analyzing and Using Public Health Data in Indigenous Communities (SPPH579, 1.5 credits)
